Diarmaid, Deirdre and Donncha Moynihan
The Black Brook Concert
Diarmaid, Deirdre and Donncha Moynihan are widely considered to be three of Ireland’s leading traditional musicians. Their latest release Black Brook has received excellent critical acclaim with a 5 Star Irish Times review describing the album as "A remarkable collection.....three musicians reaching skywards on one of the albums of the year.”
In January 2025, they wowed audiences at Scotland's prestigious Celtic Connections Festival and other recent performances include at Cork Folk Festival, Westport Festival of Chamber Music, Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival and Ballincollig Winter Festival, Clifden Arts Festival, Kilfenora Traditional Music Festival, Castletown House (Celbridge), The Custom House Gallery (Westport), Linenhall Theatre (Castlebar) and Ennis Trad Festival.
In Spring 2024, Moynihan performed an extensive series of 31 concerts in Germany. In November 2022, the trio embarked upon a highly-successful 22-date tour of Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Germany and, subsequently, they were invited to return to Vienna in February 2023 to perform in the Mozart Saal of the prestigious Vienna Konzerthaus.
The trio’s musical paths have been individually and collectively shaped by many diverse influences over the years and these musical ideas coming together produce the sounds heard on Black Brook. They continue to share their exciting new arrangements of traditional songs and tunes and gorgeous new compositions from their album Black Brook with international audiences. Upcoming performance highlights include an appearance at Festival des Celti'Cimes in France and Tradition Now at the National Concert Hall, Dublin in September 2025.
